Though technically, not an exercise, unless you count standing in line for 45 minutes at one of the shops scattered throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties, practically on every corner.
Here are five bagel shops people love.
Long Island Bagel Cafe, 550-552 Jerusalem Ave., Bellmore: "Airier with a firm crust that's not burnt" sounds perfect, and how Seaford native Sally Ann Ingrisani Gaffney describes the bagels she picks up for her family.
"The flavor of the dough and the size of the bagel," are also desirable, Gaffney told Daily Voice. "Plus, the line could be out the door but it moves quickly."
These doughy delights are hand-rolled, kettle cooked, and baked every day, according to the company's website. Open since 1986, there are nine locations throughout Long Island. The shops feature over 100 salads and spreads, Long Island Bagel Cafe says on Facebook.
Seaford Bagels, 3970 Merrick Road, Seaford. Yelp writer Alexa K., from Tampa, said her "heart beats" for the shop's bagels. "As a native long Islander now residing in Florida, you don't realize how spoiled you get living around the best bagels (and pizza) until you move away from it. Needless to say, every time I go home my first stop is here."
My Three Sons Bagels, 974 Franklin Ave., Garden City: Melissa H. finds the "best bagels in Garden City and any neighboring town," according to her yelp post. She likes that they are baked "fresh all day long and there are multiple cream cheese options to customize" the doughy deliciousness.
Melyssa E. of Bayshore wrote, "The bagels were super soft and delicious."
Copiague Bagel & Deli, 1026 Montauk Highway, Copiague: A family-business where Hicksville resident Melissa L., according to her yelp post, finds "Fantastic bagels, eggs cooked perfectly and very fast delivery. I wish I could eat it literally every single day. Their everything bagels are the best."
Hampton Bays Bagels, 252 W. Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays: Tonya K. of Houston, Texas, wrote on yelp that she, "Always have, always will" get her bagels on her way out East. "Love this place."
"It's always consistent, has a great selection of bagels (mind you, if you go early enough!) and an extensive menu of other breakfast items, all of which are made to order."
"The bagels are the perfect size, chewy and dense."
